Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever secured their first win of the season by taking down the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday. Clark recorded 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, along with four rebounds, nine assists, two steals and one block to lead Indiana to an 87-78 victory.
Kelsey Mitchell added 23 points for Indiana, while Sophie Cunningham tallied 12 points and seven rebounds.

Five players scored in double digits for the Sparks, but only Kelsey Plum breached the 20-point mark with 25.
While the game produced plenty of highlights, what happened after the showdown drew even more attention. Clark reunited with her former Iowa Hawkeyes teammate Kate Martin postgame, with the two sharing a moment.
It’s worth noting that Martin joined the Sparks on a player development contract after she was waived by the Golden State Valkyries three days before the season started.

Unfortunately, Martin didn’t play in the game. Players in the developmental pool are only allowed to play a maximum of 12 games for their teams, and Martin wasn’t activated for the Fever showdown.
Clark and Martin shared a hug and said something to each other. As they were going their separate ways, Martin could be heard saying, “Bye Cait, I love you.”
The WNBA posted a video of their interaction and wrote, “A bond never broken.”
Fans absolutely loved the moment and expressed delight, with one commenter writing, “Hawkeye bonds are forever!!!”

“Aww I love them,” a fan added. Another one said, “The besties!!”
“This makes me want to cry!” a poster shared.
A supporter stated, “Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye.”
“Never stop showing these two reunite,” a viewer requested to the WNBA.
The Fever have two more games against the Sparks this season, scheduled in June and July. It will certainly be interesting to see if Martin will be activated in any of those games to play Clark once again.
