Water main, road improvements on the way for 16 Avenue in South Surrey

Road and water main improvements are on their way to 16 Avenue in South Surrey.
At Monday night’s council meeting, Surrey council voted unanimously to award the contract for the work to low bidder GB Projects Ltd. in the amount of $8,760,741.15 (with the expenditure authorization limit set at $9,637,000.
Council also voted to award R.F. Binnie and Associates Ltd. the contract for for the related engineering construction services, in the amount of $379,707.30 (with the expenditure authorization limit set at$418,000).
The work includes the arterial road widening of 16 Avenue to a four-lane standard from Highway 99 to the 16900-block, including widening of 168 Street from 15A Avenue to 17A Avenue, a city corporate report notes.
The road improvements also include pedestrian and cycling facilities, and also includes coordinated utility improvements consisting of the installation of a new water main along 16 Avenue from 168 Street to 170 Street.
Work is expected to start in June and be completed by spring of next year 2027; funding is available in the city’s approved 2026 Transportation and Utility Budget, with 45 per cent funded through Transportation and Water Development Cost Charges and 55 per cent through the TransLink OMR program.
