Surrey police arrested a male driver and female passenger early Thursday morning after a wellness check led to a crash involving a Dodge pickup.
Police responded to a wellness check at around 1:20 a.m. from a person concerned about the well-being of their friend. Officers located what they described as a “potential vehicle of interest” in the 12800 block of 76 Avenue.
The Dodge pickup refused to stop for police and “eventually drove into a tree and fire hydrant,” said Surrey Police spokesperson Ian MacDonald.
The male driver and a female passenger were arrested at the scene, and several charges are being considered, such as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, breach of driving prohibition, and mischief.
The person who was the subject of the wellness check was another passenger in the vehicle, and the police verified their well-being.
