A brief but loud fireworks display is planned for the Toronto waterfront tonight, and it just might be another part of Drake’s upcoming album release.
A notice from the City of Toronto says there will be a 10-minute pyrotechnic display at 10:45 p.m. on the water in front of the Harbourfront Centre.
The fireworks show is part of “a private video shoot” and has been planned in accordance to city requirements.
Residents in the area are being warned to expect “brief loud noises and bright flashes of light.”
“We recommend keeping pets indoors and notifying household members who may be sensitive to noise or light,” the city says. “The display will be brief, and we thank the public for their understanding.”
There is speculation the fireworks are part of the release of Toronto-based rapper Drake’s upcoming album, who posted hints on social media Thursday suggesting the record could be released on Friday.
Drake’s recent publicity stunts and video filming has caused some chaos in Toronto, including an explosion that shook the Downsview Park area in April.
Downsview Park alerted residents ahead of time with alerts and flyers, saying they “may notice loud noises, flashes of light, and/or smoke in the area for short periods of time.”
Then an ice sculpture teasing Drake’s “Iceman” album erected in downtown Toronto drew unruly crowds with police on the scene to control crowds and out of concern for public safety as people climbed the 25-foot-high sculpture.
The Toronto Fire Services eventually stepped in and used firetruck hoses to melt the sculpture.
