The WNBA’s best and brightest shooters will match wits — and wrists — on Friday night during the 3-Point Contest.

The spectacle sees five of the league’s finest markswomen take center stage beneath the shimmery Gainbridge Fieldhouse lights in Indianapolis. Four of the five are All-Stars, while all are known for finding their target more times than most when they launch tridents.

Mystics rookie Sonia Citron, Dream standout Allisha Gray, Liberty playmaker Sabrina Ionescu, Sparks newcomer Kelsey Plum and Fever sharpshooter Lexie Hull will take the floor during the festivities, hoping their prowess for long balls travels to the Midwest. The event was also expected to include Indiana supernova Caitlin Clark. But her hopes of another piece of hardware was struck down when she tweaked her groin against the Sun on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, there’s plenty of reason for people to tune into the action on Friday. Gray and Ionescu are former winners, each hoping to join Allie Quigley as players to win the competition multiple times. Citron has quietly emerged as one of the league’s more efficient wing scorers. And Plum is capable of catching fire in a moment’s notice.

It might not be the Clark-fueled frenzy some hoped for. But those watching on as Citron, Gray, Ionescu and Plum stride onto the floor are set to bear witness to three-point artistry.

WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest format

The WNBA’s 3-Point Contest employs the same format as the NBA’s version. That means the four participants will launch shots at five different locations along the arc, with four ball racks consisting of four regular balls (worth one point) and one money ball (worth two points) and one ball rack consisting with five money balls. Players can choose where they would like the money ball rack to be placed along the perimeter.

Located an ocean away are two “Starry Range” spots. Those venues hold one white ball each, worth three points.

The contest is divided into two rounds. The two competitors with the highest scores after the first round will advance to the finale. There, they joust like knights, with the player who sinks the most triples declared the event’s winner.
