A 40-year-old woman has died after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 late Friday night, said Ontario Provincial Police.

Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. on Highway 401 near Eglinton Avenue W. after two crashes took place in the same area, said an OPP news release Saturday.

The first collision was between a SUV and passenger vehicle, OPP said. They said the second incident took place when the SUV driver exited her car and was struck by the driver of another passenger vehicle.

A 40-year-old woman from Mississauga was taken to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

Roads that were closed for the investigation have since reopened.

Anyone with information or video is urged to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
