Over 15 people gathered in a cozy community prayer room, 528 Sargent Avenue, on Sunday afternoon for a Winnipeg for Jesus outreach event.
The afternoon started off with a time of worship and prayer before teams of two and three went out into the neighbourhood to evangelize.
Afterwards, there was a time to regroup and debrief on what happened during the evangelism portion.
Winnipeg for Jesus is a local ministry that has a heart for reaching people that need the Gospel.
“We’re a ministry that prioritizes sharing the Gospel but also teaching people how to share the Gospel,” shared Co-leader of Winnipeg for Jesus, Colby Sabourin.
Sabourin continued, “It started a few years ago with me and Jeffrey, the other leader. We’d do weekly outreaches. We’d get together in a room, pray together, fellowship, and then we’d go out into different places like malls and parks, with people and we’d share the Gospel with them. Over time, it became something that we wanted to bring other people into.”
Co-leader of the ministry, Jeffrey Bergen, shared the importance of knowing the reason behind sharing the Gospel.
“I think for us as Christians it is so important for us to understand not just what Jesus did for us, but why He did it,” said Bergen. “When we understand why Jesus went through the extreme pain and suffering for us and we receive the revelation of His love for us, we can’t not share the Gospel.”
Bergen expressed, “His love is so great and when we understand why He did it (died for us), we understand why His heart breaks for the lost.”
Attendees of the outreach spoke about their involvement with Winnipeg for Jesus.
“There were a lot of nerves at the beginning because no one walks a perfect walk with Christ. To tell someone to follow the perfect man when you cannot follow those steps, you have to work with your shame and guilt,” shared Aaron.
Aaron continued about Winnipeg for Jesus, ” It is a great group of people, and I could not be more blessed than to do the Lord’s work.”
Carrying out The Great Commission is the ultimate aim of outreaches like this.
“We go out a lot on weekends. We go out to the streets, we go into malls, we have even been into the casinos to pray for people. We’re just out there,” shared Denise. “Jesus gave us that commandment to go out there and preach the Word. He sent us out, so that is what we are doing, we are just responding.”
Winnipeg for Jesus has a heart hungry for Christ and to remain faithful to His command of reaching the lost.
