‘It was just nice to be part of it, and get lucky and win a truck,’ says Marc Dupuis on scoring rare ace during Boston Pizza Wendat golf event to win 2025 Chevrolet Colorado

It was an ‘un-fore-gettable’ moment at the 19th annual Boston Pizza Wendat charity golf tournament when Marc Dupuis of Midland shot a hole-in-one to win a new pick-up truck from Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC.

“It was very hot and everybody was pretty warm, and the shot was just a fluke shot really. I just got up to hit it and it went in,” Dupuis told MidlandToday.

The rare moment was viewed by many in attendance at the June event by Boston Pizza, which raised over $62,000 for Wendat Community Programs. Dupuis had also participated as a sponsor through his business, Marc’s Auto Repair and Tire located on Vindin Street.

“It works out because a lot of the local businesses sponsor it like myself and Boston Pizza,” he explained. “It was just nice to be part of it, and get lucky and win a truck.

“It took a couple days to realize what really happened. I mean it was a good shock, but it was nevertheless a shock,” Dupuis added.

A ceremony to transfer ownership of the 2025 mid-size Trail Boss edition Chevrolet Colorado was held at the Tom Smith dealership on King Street in Midland this week.

Wendat Community Programs executive director Andrea Abbott-Kokosin stated that since the event began in 2005, proceeds have been used to support the organization.

“All the proceeds go to buying vehicles, so that we can bring people to and from our programs to appointments, outings, et cetera,” said Abbott-Kokosin. “In the history of the event, this is the only hole-in-one. We have never seen anyone do it or win a truck.”

Marketing manager Jen Varty of Tom Smith Chevrolet was a witness to Dupuis’ shot, which took place at the end of the day in the summer heat.

“We had all kind of complained about how hot we were; we were just watching everyone hitting balls. (Dupuis) came up, he hit the ball, we saw it hit the green, and then it disappeared.

“The girls who were witnessing from Boston Pizza ran down to check inside the hole to make sure the ball went in, and then everyone celebrated.”

When asked what the first thing he would be doing with the truck, Dupuis said that his family were not in attendance for the ceremony but instead were six hours north at an alternate location.

“I’m actually leaving here right after this and going right up there,” laughed Dupuis.

“I’ll definitely be doing the event next year,” Dupuis added, “but winning another truck is probably never going to happen again.”
