WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A 1,000-mile cycling journey for veterans continued through Wilmington on Monday.
Twenty veterans left the Battleship North Carolina on May 18 to cycle to Jacksonville, then eventually to Portsmouth, Virginia.
The ride is part of the Soldier Ride 250 route, which is part of the NFL’s Salute to Service for the Wounded Warrior Project.
“If you have an opportunity to cheer them along that would be greatly welcome to these people have served for us for our freedoms,” said Meghan Wagner, physical health and wellness director at Wounded Warrior Project. “This is an opportunity for us to commemorate America 250 but also the history of the military, including these Service members that have sacrificed for us.”
Eighty wounded warriors are taking part in the ride, which started in Jacksonville, Florida and will end May 29 in New York City.
