Cheer program expands from Vancouver to Vernon

Three cheers for the region’s latest athlete development program.
Absolute Cheer & Tumbling has expanded its 19-year legacy from North Vancouver into Vernon with Absolute Okanagan.
The new program is co-founded by Sonja Aquila and Billie Sue Roe, an internationally respected leader in cheerleading education and athlete development.
“Built on a foundation of growth mindset and a commitment to building champions for life, Absolute has developed athletes who excel in stunting, tumbling, and performance while also building confidence, leadership, and resilience,” the founders said.
Roe leads the programs, which launch with spring and summer training clinics.
“Whether your athlete is new to cheer or ready to elevate their skills, Absolute Okanagan’s spring clinics provide a supportive, high-energy environment where athletes can train, grow, and build confidence the Absolute way—while preparing for the fall season and positioning themselves for team placements in competitive cheerleading,” the founders said.
The first training weekend takes place May 23 and 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Priest Valley Gym. Subsequent clinics are May 30 and 31, June 6 and 7 and June 13 and 14.

Roe’s background includes national championship experience at Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky, a professional performance career as stunt captain in Bring It On: The Musical on Broadway and the First National Tour, international coaching and educator experience across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and judging at major international events including the ICU World Cheerleading Championships.
Absolute Cheer & Tumbling Ltd. was founded in 2007 by Jocelyn Lefteruk and Aquila, two visionary friends who brought together their respective clubs, Vancouver Academy and Seaside Athletics, to create something exceptional for the North Shore cheer community.
In 2008, Absolute moved into its own private training space in North Vancouver and began building a program rooted in strong technique, athlete development, and meaningful connection. What started as a bold new chapter has grown into one of British Columbia’s most respected cheerleading and tumbling programs.
Today, Absolute proudly serves more than 400 athletes across All-Star Cheer, Novice and Prep Cheer, Recreational Cheer, and Tumbling.
“Our teams have consistently earned podium finishes at the provincial, national, and international levels, including multiple appearances as Worlds Finalists in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2019, and 2023.
