Surrey Police Service records 73 impaired driving cases over long weekend

Queen Victoria would not be amused.
The Surrey Police Service opened 73 impaired driving investigations over the long weekend, between Friday, May 15 and Monday, May 18, issuing prohibitions that range from criminal charges to immediate roadside prohibitions.
Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton noted that impaired driving remains is still a major cause traffic crashes throughout British Columbia. He reminds drivers alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, and “certain prescription medications can all impair a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle by impacting reaction time, judgement, coordination, and attention.”
Police advise people who are inclined to do this stuff, or need to for medical reasons, to use a tax or ride-sharing service, public transit, or choose a sober designated driver.
“Never get into a vehicle with a driver you believe may be impaired,” Houghton said. “If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please call 911.”
