Police say they’ve charged a Brampton man after being caught in a stolen vehicle and running from officers for hours east of Thunder Bay.
The incident happened on Thursday around 8 p.m. when OPP officers on patrol received an alert from an automated licence plate reader about a stolen vehicle and trailer on Highway 17 in Terrace Bay, a few hours east of Thunder Bay.
Officers set up a spike belt, also known as a spike strip, and say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and took off into a wooded area nearby.
The OPP’s emergency response team and canine unit helped track the suspect, who was located the next day around 4 p.m., police say.
Police say Darbara Mann, 53, of Brampton, has been arrested and charged with multiple offences, including flight from peace officer, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to comply with release order and disobeying order of court.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before court at a later date.
