Inside Arsenal’s title celebrations as Bukayo Saka sends message to critics

A jubilant Bukayo Saka hit back at Arsenal’s critics by saying “they’re not laughing at us anymore” as the club celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Arsenal players and staff gathered at their London Colney training base to watch rivals Manchester City draw 1-1 with Bournemouth, guaranteeing the Gunners their first championship since 2004 and their 14th top-flight in all, with a game to spare.

“Light that up,” Saka said in footage posted by defender Jurrien Timber on his Instagram account.

“Let me tell you something. Twenty-two years, 22 years. there was laughing, there was joking, they’re not laughing anymore. Look, it is going to be shining, it is going to be shining bright.”

Ian Wright joins in the celebrations

Former Gunner Ian Wright has posted a video of himself celebrating with fans outside the Emirates, with the caption possibly a reference to his minor spat with Wayne Rooney, whom he dubbed the ‘celebration police’ for saying Arsenal over-reacted to reaching the Champions League final.

Erling Haaland: ‘We should be angry’

Erling Haaland has urged Manchester City to use the pain of missing out on the Premier League trophy for a second successive year to fuel next season’s title challenge.

“Every game in the Premier League is difficult, we tried, it wasn’t enough,” Haaland said in an interview with City Studios.

“The whole club should use this as motivation now. We should be angry, we should feel a fire inside our belly because it’s not good enough. It’s gone two years now, it feels like forever.

“We’re going to do everything we can, everyone that will be here next season, to win the league.”

The crucial intervention that turned the title race

After so much angst and frustration from the length of that very wait, Mikel Arteta and his squad can at last say it’s over.

The Basque, for his part, was more conscious than anyone of the effects of that wait. He could sense it through the season, that sudden danger when everything looked like slipping away in the manner that so many people expected.

If there has been one great virtue of Arsenal’s campaign, it is how Arteta has managed that; how he ensured the team stayed in control.

That was occasionally rather fragile. There were at least four major moments of emotional crisis, when Arteta felt he had to intervene. The trick was always to get the players to look at it from a new perspective, to remember they’d rather be in this situation than not.

Ian Wright celebrates with Arsenal fans after securing long-awaited Premier League title

Ex-Arsenal player and pundit Ian Wright was among thousands of fans celebrating the Gunners’ first Premier League title in 22 years, joining in the joyous scenes outside the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Manchester City’s failure to beat Bournemouth, instead drawing 1-1, meant Pep Guardiola’s side could mathematically no longer catch league leaders Arsenal and take the title race to the final day, with the gap at four points with one game to go.

The result sparked delirium at the Emirates and across north London, with fans flocking to the stadium to celebrate their first top-flight trophy since the 2004 ‘Invincibles’, setting off flares and fireworks.

Wright, Arsenal’s second-highest goal scorer of all time and a former Premier League winner with the side, was among their numbers, and was mobbed by fans singing his name outside the ground.

Iraola eyeing thank you gift from Arteta

Andoni Iraola is hopeful he will receive a thank you gift from childhood friend Mikel Arteta after helping deliver his side the Premier League title with a 1-1 draw with Manchester City that ensured Arsenal were mathematically out of reach.

He said: “It would be lovely. Something! I haven’t even checked my phone, I should have at least one text message or something.

“But it was not because of this game. They were probably going to go and finish it themselves.

“I’m happy for him because he’s done an incredible job there. The last few seasons they have been very consistent.”

Declan Rice celebrates Arsenal’s Premier League title win with cheeky Instagram post

Declan Rice celebrated Arsenal’s Premier League title triumph with an Instagram post calling back to his now famous line at the end of the Gunners’ April defeat by Manchester City.

Rice was pictured saying “it’s not over” to his captain Martin Odegaard at full-time in the 2-1 defeat which swung title-race momentum in favour of reigning champions City.

The moment of defiance was both hailed and mocked on social media, but Rice was proved right as the Gunners sealed their first Premier League title for 22 years following Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw between City and Bournemouth.

He posted: “I told you all… it’s done.”
