A person who was stabbed around the noon hour on Tuesday near one of Mississauga’s busiest intersections has died in hospital from their injuries, police say.
Peel Regional Police haven’t revealed many details, saying only the male victim succumbed to his injuries a short time after being stabbed at Hurontario and Agnes streets, just steps north of Dundas Street.
The age of the victim has not yet been released.
Meanwhile, police say they’re on the hunt for an unknown number of culprits, possibly two, in connection with the noon-hour violence that erupted in the heart of Cooksville, located just a few minutes to the south of the City Centre area of Mississauga.
The culprits were last seen fleeing eastbound on Agnes Street, police said, adding more details will be released as the investigation continues.
There are no suspect descriptions at this time.
Area schools were initially placed in partial lockdown immediately following the stabbing, but police said in their latest update those hold-and-secure orders have since been lifted.
As a large police presence remains at the scene, several sections of the area have been shut down to traffic.
Southbound Hurontario Street is closed from Agnes Street to Dundas Street while Agnes Street is also shut down to traffic, police said.
