Two suspects, including one from Brampton, have been charged after two youths fell ill after consuming unregulated cannabis bought online.
Investigators were alerted on May 4 that two youths became sick after consuming cannabis products purchased from a distribution website, York Regional Police say.
Officers discovered that the website was operating without a cannabis licence, that the cannabis was unregulated, and that the operator of the website did not confirm the identity or age of customers.
The investigation led police to raid a home in Vaughan and another in Brampton, along with a vehicle allegedly used to distribute cannabis products.
York police say Artin Dawood, 30, of Vaughan, has been charged with possession for the purpose of distribution, distribute illicit cannabis, dangerous driving and stunt driving.
Talia Dawood, 59, of Brampton, has been charged with possession for the purpose of distribution.
Police are reminding parents to be aware that youth are increasingly accessing cannabis products through online sources.
“These products may be unregulated, improperly packaged and pose serious health risks,” police say. “Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the dangers of purchasing unregulated cannabis online.”
