Surrey outdoor learning centre hosts fundraiser for geodome

The Kids in Nature Outdoor Learning Program is putting the fun in fundraiser.
The program – which helps expose children to positive, natural environment-based growth experiences – is holding a special event to help purchase a geodome for its South Surrey home.
Live music, dancing and forest-play experiences will all be part of the family-friendly evening, Friday, May 29, from 5 p.m. on, at the Kids in Nature Outdoor Learning Centre, 18518 24 Ave.
“We’re raising funds to purchase and install a geodome: a year-round, all-weather outdoor structure that will allow us to expand programming for children and the wider community, regardless of the season,” KIN’s community relations director Marisa Crockett told Peace Arch News.
The fundraiser will feature dancing to live music by long-established White Rock band Chic Machine (classic hits from yesterday to today), with guest entertainers and DJ sets throughout the evening, she said.
Adding to the fun will be a community chili cook-off (guests can enjoy a variety of homemade chilis, and compete – dinner is included with an entry).
There will also be forest-play experiences for children and families, raffles featuring donations from local businesses, temporary tattoos and a ‘baby forest’ plant sale (guests can take home their own small forest starter).
And topping it off will be a dunk tank “for ultimate silly fun,” Crockett said.
KIN’s private forested property (also a licensed preschool and daycare) is on 24 Avenue just past 184 Street, with signage at the entrance.
On-site parking is available, and volunteers will guide guests upon arrival.
