A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault after two men were shot in Winnipeg earlier this week, police say.
Officers responded to a gun call at a home on Bannerman Avenue between Arlington and McKenzie streets just before 10 p.m. on Monday, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Friday.
Police found two men, age 21 and 23, who had been shot. Both were taken in critical condition to hospital, where Andrew Chartrand, 23, died. The 21-year-old was upgraded to stable condition, the release said.
On Thursday, police arrested Joshua Lloyd Beaulieu with help from the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit and the tactical support team, the release said.
Beaulieu was also charged with discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent, possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and two counts each of possessing a firearm, restricted or prohibited weapon, firearm part or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and failing to comply with a condition of a release order, police said.
He was detained in custody.
