The Powdersville boys soccer team repeated as state champions on Friday with a 6-1 win over Oceanside Collegiate in the 3A state title match in Columbia.Brody Pike was the story of the match, scoring 5 goals to lift the Patriots to their second consecutive title over Oceanside Collegiate.”When we won last year their coach didn’t tell me good game – he said I’ll see you next year,” Powdersville head coach Jeremy McCall said. “Well he got what he wanted and I don’t think he got what he wanted so, I am super proud of this group. It’s a fantastic group of kids beyond soccer players, I am over the moon for them and just super thankful to be part of such a good group.”Southside also beat Gray Collegiate 3-0 to win the 4A state title. The championship is Southside’s first in program history.The game was scoreless at halftime, then in the second half Southside’s offense was in a groove. Erik Martinez scored the first goal of the match to give Southside a 1-0 lead. He added another goal a few minutes later and Adriel Rodriguez scored the third goal of the match for the Tigers.”Southside is a little school, and we work really hard during the year to have amazing players,” Tigers head coach Luis Kuronya said. “They deserve to have this award for the first time for the school, and it is not going to be the last one.”
