McNally 3-6, 7-6 (5), *3-0 Tomljanović

Caty McNally is in complete control of this match on Court 7.

On her fourth break point chance of the third game, she blazes a return back to Ajla Tomljanović, who is unable to control the pace.

The Aussie blasts a forehand that clips the tape and bounces back on her side of the court, resulting in the break for the American.

It’s all one-way traffic for McNally, three games away from a second round appearance at Roland Garros.

One of the big reasons for McNally’s success: the length of her backhand. She is hitting that shot deep into the court and mixing in a slice, where Tomljanović cannot control the spin.

Tomljanović’s serve is also causing her problems. Coming into this tournament, the Aussie averaged 5 1/2 double faults per match. Today against McNally, Tomljanović already has nine and counting.

Not ideal.
