Surrey city staff are recommending that council approve a $1,425,810.75 contract for Chandos Construction to provide “progressive design-build pre-construction services” related to relocating and expanding Fleetwood Fire Hall 6.
It will be at 9261 and 9271 152 Street and 9258 and 9278 151A Street, and if council approves the contract this coming Monday the spending limit will be set at $1,650,000.
City manager Rob Costanzo notes in a corporate report coming before council that the current Fire Hall 6, at 9040 152 street, opened in April 1961 near the intersection of Fraser Highway and 152 Street.
“The existing hall is no longer adequate to serve the surrounding community and is to be demolished to facilitate future development along the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain line,” Costanzo said.
The new Surrey Fire Services hall will be four times the size of the one it will replace three blocks south, near Fraser Highway.
The capital cost is $30 million for the replacement fire hall, which will be around 23,000 square feet.
Construction is expected to start next year and be completed in 2028.
