It may still be spring, but Toronto’s “most iconic summer tradition” is gearing up for its big return.

And with preparations underway, the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is officially hiring.

For 18 days in 2026 from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7, the celebration, lovingly known as “The Ex,” has dropped a number of seasonal positions as it looks to staff this year’s fair.

And from costumer characters and agricultural attendants to bartenders and stage managers, there is a wide range of open roles. Here’s what to know.

CNE jobs in Toronto

For those interested in being a costume character, this role engages and greets the public throughout the grounds. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age and between four-foot-10-inches and five-foot-five-inches tall to meet costume requirements. This job pays $17.60 per hour.

The agricultural attendant role is also paid $17.60 per hour and is in charge of setting up and tearing down activity stations and demonstrating program activities to guests.

If bartending is more your speed, this position pays $18.60 an hour and applicants must be Smart Serve certified, with a strong knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine and standard drink recipes.

To apply as a stage manager, candidates should have proven experience and a knowledge of stage setup, equipment and technical requirements for live performances. This job pays $21.40 an hour.

Going to the CNE in 2026

If you won’t be working at The Ex but plan to be in attendance for all the excitement, the CNE unveiled its first set of headliners for this year’s fair at the end of April.

The star-studded lineup includes performances from Grammy-Award-winner Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco and global reggae-pop hitmaker Shaggy.

The 2026 celebration also features eight-time Juno-Award-winning rock icon and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Tom Cochrane, along with The Trews, Lights and Silverstein.

Plus, more artists are still to be revealed.

New this year, the CNE Bandshell stage has been renamed to the Bell SOUNDSTAGE at the Bandshell, in partnership with Billboard Canada and Rolling Stone Canada. And there are also plans to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the bandshell in 2026.
