The Martin Lake fire as seen from Grand Falls-Windsor (Submitted)
The Martin Lake fire has expanded to 2,160 hectares and is approximately 16 km south of Grand Falls-Windsor.
While air crews are working on the fire, the fire behaviour is not allowing ground crews into the area at this time.
Premier John Hogan says a 100 metre wide fire break, cut three years ago is helping to contain the blaze, and some 10 to 20 mm of rain is in the forecast for the region tomorrow.
“Unfortunately, we do have reports that cabins are likely impacted, but everyone is safe. there’s extreme smokey behaviour in this part of the province so we can’t confirm the number of lost structures.”
