Positive development for Lane Hutson’s future in Montreal
This is exactly the news we were hoping to hear.
Last week’s bad news is gradually fading, giving way to optimism regarding the young star defenseman’s next contract.
There are even concrete discussions currently taking place!
“Sources indicate the Canadiens and Hutson’s camp are in continual contract discussions.
So why the delay? Because there’s a paradigm shift happening in the NHL.”
– Marco D’Amico
“Canadiens and Lane Hutson pushing for a deal despite hurdles from RFA market reset and other factors. Both camps are focused on an agreement.”

As a reminder, Lane Hutson became eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st, and many expected it to happen on that exact day.
That said, despite the wait, both sides remain positive about reaching an agreement.
Last season, the 21-year-old defenseman tallied 66 points in 82 regular season games, as well as 5 points in 5 NHL playoff games.
Unless he signs an extension before then, Hutson will be a restricted free agent (RFA) next July.
