Surrey’s Ravinder Singh, 25, is charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and two charges of discharging a firearm, and Jashanbir Singh, 21, is charged with assault and extortion. Surrey Police Service’s Supt. Lav Mangat and Supt. Bal Brach were at the news conference in Ontario.
The operation also involved the FBI and includes a combined 106 charges for extortion, firearms, arson, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, drug-related crimes and breaches of court orders.
Six of the 17 arrested in April were detained by the Canada Border Services Agency. Five are members or associates of the For Brothers gang.
The rest are from Ontario, with the exception of Gautam Gautam, 22, of Manteca, Calif.
“Extortions bring violence, fear to the community, intimidation, and it’s not just the victim, entire neighbourhoods and communities are impacted by this,” said Peel Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
“Victims were threatened, businesses were shot, there have been arsons, families intimidated.”
