It was kind of a weird week in the CPL; it’s not often we get two coaching changes.
Pacific FC officially parted ways with James Merriman, and Atlético Ottawa announced that Diego Mejía will be leaving at the end of May. So, at the moment there are two vacant coaching positions in the CPL.
There’s no word yet on who those teams might be looking at to fill the roles, but neither team is expected to rush to a decision. Both sides will likely be operating with interim managers for the next few weeks, including next weekend when they play each other.
Mejía’s last game in charge was supposed to be this Saturday’s game at Pacific, but in classic Mejía fashion, he picked up a yellow card against Forge — his fourth of the season! — and will be suspended.
The coming weekend should be a lot of fun, with a top-of-the-table clash between Forge and Cavalry on tap. Either side would be alone in first place with a win on Sunday.
Plus, FC Supra and Pacific FC host the first Red and White Out matches this weekend. If you’re headed to either game, bust out your Canada gear to help the CPL cheer on the national team next month.
Speaking of the national team, a special shout out to Cavalry FC’s Maël Henry and Forge’s Zayne Bruno. Both players have been invited by Jesse Marsch to join Canada’s pre-World Cup camp in Charlotte, N.C. this week as training players.
