Tracking device hidden in stolen musical instrument led police to Brampton.
A wireless tracking device hidden inside a stolen musical instrument helped police track down property missing for more than a year and led to drug trafficking charges against a Brampton man, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Wellington County OPP said officers were contacted on March 9 about several musical instruments and tools that had been stolen from a storage unit in Erin in September 2024.
Police said the victim had placed a wireless location-tracking device on one of the stolen items, which eventually led investigators to an address in Brampton.
On May 14, members of the Wellington County OPP Community Streets Crime Unit, along with uniform officers, executed a search warrant at the Brampton residence.
Investigators recovered the stolen musical instruments and other property, with an estimated value of $4,500, police said.
During the search, officers also allegedly seized suspected methamphetamine and heroin with an estimated street value of nearly $3,500.
Manpreet Padda, 42, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, along with two counts of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Guelph court on Aug. 7.
