One of Toronto’s biggest cultural epicentres is overhauling its entire retail branch.
The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) recently announced that its interior retail space, known for its sprawling selection of curated items that echo iconic galleries within the building, will be undergoing a full makeover.
According to a recent Instagram post, designers with the AGO, with help from a major contribution through the RBC Foundation Community Spaces Grant program, stated that the new space will be playing double duty as a storefront and a community space.
Renders of the new retail space show a complete makeover alongside a fully refurbished café, allowing those who visit the AGO to reflect on its selections and storied art pieces, while also doing a little light shopping.
In terms of what guests can expect, gallery officials have stated that the retail space will feature a blend of prints, books and Indigenous-designed products, all built to create community connections.
Construction on the new AGO shop and café is scheduled for next month, with its official public opening slated for later this autumn.
