Kacey Musgraves has found herself smack dab in the middle of a debate surrounding inclusivity in fashion after a fat influencer hit out at the singer over the lack of plus sizing in her new clothing collaboration with Lee.

The Golden Hour singer recently launched an apparel line in conjunction with Lee that is being sold at Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. But some plus-size fans hit out at Musgraves for not catering to them.

Influencer Megan Ixim (who goes by the handle @msgiggles on Instagram and TikTok) posted a video slamming the collection’s limited sizing.

“Guess who’s being excluded again? That’s right, fat people,” the self-proclaimed fat activist said in her post. “I personally find this really upsetting because plus sizes, and not selling them at Walmart, seems really silly to me. I feel like that’s somewhere, historically, we’ve always found plus sizes.”

Ixim also accused Musgraves of excluding overweight shoppers when she teamed up with Reformation in 2024.

“There was extended sizes but with three designs instead of the entire line,” she claimed. “I’m upset.”

Ixim tagged Musgraves in her video, writing, “I just think your plus-size fans (of) which there are MANY deserve more @spaceykacey.”

The Grammy winner responded to Ixim’s rant on Instagram, writing, “Hiii not in my control at all. Sorry you’re disappointed. Hope this helps!”

Some of her followers sided with Ixim’s assessment. “Huge celebrities trying to say they have no control over things like sizing is f***ing laughable,” one user wrote. “How about, ‘Make everything available for fat girls or I’ll take my name and collection elsewhere.’”

Another called Musgraves’ reply “crazy.”

On Reddit, Musgraves was called “condescending” with one writing: “The way this response could have been respectful, but she went out of her way to make it rude 🫩… Recognize the issue and apologize to the fans who were left out. That’s literally it.”

But others defended the singer, including one fan who said, “If you can’t fit into a particular brand, move on or lose weight. Stop trying to shame people because they don’t make your large size.”

“Give it a rest!” a second added. “I’ve been plus-sized for 20+ years and I find styles that flatter my body not because they’re trendy. You’re just looking for attention.”

“The woman was kind of snarky, so I suppose Kacey thought she should be snarky in kind,” someone else wrote.

Musgraves seemed to infuriate Ixim even more

After Musgraves’ feedback, Ixim called her explanation “disingenuous” and said she would no longer support the musical artist.

“As the person who is the entire reason and face of this launch, it feels like this would be something you could push back on,” Ixim wrote. “Your plus-size fans love you and we want to have our moment in the sun supporting you.”

With Ixim’s video racking up thousands of views and becoming a talking point online, she returned to social media to accuse Musgraves of brushing off her complaints.

“I’m the woman Kacey Musgraves basically told this week to go f*** herself … Initially, pretty cool to get a response. Until I realized how absolutely condescending this response was to me, our plus-size community, and her fans,” she said in a follow-up video to her 134,000 followers on Instagram. “Was I absolutely surprised to have this response from a media-trained pop star who should know better? Yeah, that shocked me a little bit … Fat phobia is a hell of a drug.”

Ixim said she hasn’t received an apology, but was happy that she was able to spark a debate online. “We should ask more from our celebrities,” she said. “We should can and should do more.”

Lee and Walmart have yet to address Ixim’s complaints.
