A barn burned to the ground after fire broke out on a farm near Ashton in Ottawa’s rural west early Tuesday afternoon.
First responders were called to the Anderson Farm on Franktown Road near Dwyer Hill Road just before 12:30 p.m., following reports of a tractor on fire.
Flames quickly spread across the grass and to a nearby barn, Ottawa fire said in a news release Tuesday evening.
The blaze was under control by 2 p.m., with firefighters using a water shuttle system to bring water to the scene due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained at the scene late Tuesday afternoon to douse the charred remains of the large structure and prevent the fire from reigniting.
According to one of the farm’s neighbours, the Anderson family is well-known in the community for the beef and lamb they sell locally.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and it’s unclear if any livestock was in the barn when it burned down.
