Firefighters noticed smoke in the area while returning from a call at around 6 a.m. They checked out the area and located a well-involved fire amongst some shipping containers and industrial equipment in the 500 block of Messier.

Crews initiated a fire attack and had the fire under control about 45 minutes later.

Due to the fire’s proximity to nearby rail lines, train traffic was temporarily halted as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

As a result, Archibald Street was closed between Messier Street and Marion Street. Messier Street was also closed between Archibald and Dawson Rd.

Both roads have since been reopened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
