Don’t approach or tamper with bear traps: police

‘The traps have been set due to public safety concerns related to bears being in close proximity to people during daylight hours,’ a news release said

The Ministry of Natural Resources has set humane bear traps on public property in Sault Ste. Marie.

“The traps have been set due to public safety concerns related to bears being in close proximity to people during daylight hours,” police said in a news release.

“These traps are being used to safely relocate bears that may pose a risk to people and to support the animals’ welfare.”

Please do not approach, touch, or interfere with any traps. Tampering with traps can create safety risks for the public, responding officers, and the animals involved, the release said.
