Ottawa’s children’s hospital’s foundation says it has contacted police after a former employee apparently “misdirected” proceeds from community fundraisers.
The four-sentence statement from the “dismayed” CHEO Foundation does not name the person involved, nor say how much money is missing.
“It has come to our attention that proceeds from certain community-organized third-party events were misdirected by a former employee of the CHEO Foundation,” it said.
“Upon learning this, we launched an internal review, retained legal counsel, hired a forensic investigator, submitted a claim to our insurance company and reported the matter to Ottawa Police Services to determine the full scope of the situation.”
The foundation raises money for the hospital, its research and the Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice. The hospital’s CEO sits on its board.
