Video: Shavkat Rakhmonov returns to MMA gym, works toward UFC return

Shavkat Rakhmonov is making what seems like positive progress toward his UFC return.

Undefeated welterweight contender Rakhmonov (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) was last seen in the octagon at UFC 310 in December 2024 when he handed Ian Machado Garryhis lone career defeat. He entered the fight with a knee injury, and has struggled to get himself right to capitalize on the momentum of his place in the division.

After experiencing another setback and surgery in January, glimpses of Rakhmonov’s recovery have surfaced. Last month, it was rehab training to rebuild strength in the legs, and now it’s footage of him in the gym moving and hitting pads.

Rakhmonov’s injuries prevented him from accepting a title opportunity against then-champ Belal Muhammad in May 2025, and he’s been on the sidelines ever since.

Following his most recent surgery, Rakhmonov’s team told MMA Junkie the fighter was hopeful for a return in late 2026. It’s unknown if that timeline is still in play, and if so, whom he could face in his comeback fight.
