Winnipeg firefighters and hazardous-materials specialists responded to an explosion and fire at an industrial building near Winnipeg’s St. Boniface area Thursday afternoon.
Crews went to a facility on Mission Street, between Bickerton and Beaulieu streets, around 3:30 p.m., the city said in a news release.
Smoke and flames were coming from a storage building on the property when firefighters arrived. Crews attacked the fire and declared it under control at 3:50 p.m., the city said.
The main building wasn’t affected by the fire.
Industrial chemicals were stored at the location, prompting the hazmat team to respond, too. After assessing the scene, the team confirmed there were no large amounts of chemicals involved in the fire, the release said.
The city said employees were evacuated before crews got there and no injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation.
