Museum of Surrey to host event celebrating Métis heritage

Métis culture will be front and centre in Cloverdale May 30.
The Museum of Surrey will host its annual event called “Métis: Children of the Fur Trade.” The one-day celebration will run from 12-4 p.m.
“Join us for an afternoon of connection, learning, and hands-on experiences as we explore Métis culture through the lens of the fur trade,” notes a post on the Surrey Delta Métis Association website.
The museum runs the event in partnership with the Surrey Delta Métis Association. The co-hosts are inviting the public down to take in stories and performances about unique Métis heritage.
“Come spend the afternoon with us as we celebrate Métis culture and create space for our children to learn, connect, and see themselves reflected in community,” the post continues.
Museum-goers will be able to enjoy a variety of activities. There’ll be Métis artisans and vendors, cultural displays and teachings, interactive experiences for children and families, and opportunities to connect with community.
Visitors will be able to listen to live music, create crafts, and shop at vendor booths. There will also be a selection of food available and other goods that “reflect” Métis craftsmanship and heritage.
Participating vendors include: Amanda Ruth Beads, Sheila-Rae Designs, Sandra’s Métis Creations, Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass, Urban Temple Wellness, Salty Dog Beading, Moth Latte, White Rabbit Métis Artisan, Kaebz Artwork, and Jewelry by Dulcie.
Entrance is free to this “celebration of Métis culture, history, and community.”
