A company working on the west Edmonton LRT line has been fined $120,000 after an employee was seriously injured in June 2023.

Marigold Infrastructure Partners Inc. pleaded guilty on May 26 in the Edmonton Court of Justice to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) code for failing to ensure equipment or material was contained, restrained or protected to eliminate potential danger, the province said in a Friday news release.

The Crown withdrew 13 other counts as well as charges against two of Marigold’s related entities.

The charges stemmed from an incident on June 23, 2023, when a worker was completing post-tensioning a segment of the Edmonton Valley West Line LRT line when they were struck by falling equipment and seriously injured.

The court fined Marigold $120,000, including a victim fine surcharge.

Marigold has up to 30 days to appeal the conviction or penalty.
