A two-alarm fire in Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood, which saw flames and heavy smoke emerge from a residential building Friday afternoon, has been extinguished, according to the Calgary Fire Department.
Emergency crews responded to a fire at 1001 13th Avenue S.W. around 4:30 p.m., arriving to heavy smoke, a spokesperson said.
Firefighters helped people evacuate or asked them to shelter in place on the lower floors of the 15-storey building.
The fire was located in the ceiling of one of the penthouse units, the fire department said.
One person with minor injuries sustained during the evacuation was transported to hospital, according to the fire department. One firefighter also sustained minor injuries but was not transported.
A road closure is currently in effect along 13th Avenue, between Ninth Street and 10th Street S.W., Calgary police said.
