Toronto firefighters rescued four dogs from a Scarborough house fire that sent two people to hospital for observation on Friday.
Crews responded to the fire in a single detached home on Madras Crescent, near Ellesmere and Scarborough Golf Club Road, at about 4:10 p.m., according to Brad Goodwin, acting district chief for Toronto Fire Services.
Three dogs are unaccounted for and believed to be running around the neighbourhood, he said.
When firefighters arrived, the house fully engulfed, he said. By 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the fire was not yet declared fully out.
The cause of the fire, which Goodwin described as “stubborn,” is under investigation. Crews will be on scene for the next 24 hours to monitor hot spots.
Goodwin said four people live in the residence and two were at home at the time.
The Toronto Humane Society has been notified about the dogs but the residents are looking after them now, according to Toronto Fire Services.
