Angel Reese led the Atlanta Dream to a decisive 86-66 road victory over the Portland Fire at the Moda Center, improving their record to 5-2.
However, that wasn’t the only thing the former Chicago Sky player achieved: she became the fastest player to reach 900 career rebounds in the WNBA and also received praise from a league legend.
Reese receives support from WNBA legend
The former LSU standout finished the game as the team’s leading scorer with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, along with 5 assists and a block in 32 minutes of play.
With this win, the Dream sit atop the Eastern Conference with just two losses this season, but Angel continues to shine individually and has etched her name into league history.
Entering her third season and in just 71 games, Reese surpassed 900 rebounds and 900 points, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach and surpass this milestone.
This achievement did not go unnoticed by the WNBA, which highlighted it on its official Instagramaccount, nor by fans, who left messages of support for Angel: “My goat AR5,” “1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points on the way… STAY TUNED!,” “Rebound Queen,” were some of the comments from users.
However, this achievement also caught the attention of a league legend and former Los Angeles Sparks icon: Lisa Leslie. In the WNBA’s post, the three-time champion wrote “Get It Girl” and seven fire emojis.
This isn’t the first message Reese has received from Lisa, but it resonates in a special way since Leslie is also one of the best rebounders of her era, ranking seventh all-time with 3,307 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Angel and Atlanta will look to continue improving their record against the Connecticut Sun next Thursday, June 2, at the Gateway Center Arena at 7:30 PM ET as part of the Commissioner’s Cup.
