Two playgrounds in Mississauga’s north end that were renovated with new equipment and safety features last fall have been temporarily shut down to address safety concerns, the city says.
The play equipment/area at both Eden Woods Park, located just southeast of Tenth Line West and Aquitaine Avenue in Meadowvale, and Edengrove Park, a short distance to the south, will be off limits to the public until at least Thursday, Mississauga Ward 9 Coun. Martin Reid said in an update to the community.
“The contractor is currently completing corrective work to address identified safety deficiencies and bring both playgrounds into compliance with (appropriate) safety requirements,” the councillor said in his email update on Friday. “As part of this process, the contractor is responsible for completing all required corrections, coordinating third-party compliance inspections and providing documentation confirming that the playgrounds meet (appropriate) standards.”

Reid added the contractor has targeted June 4 for the reopening of both playgrounds, “subject to the successful completion of third-party inspections confirming that the playground equipment and protective surfacing are compliant and safe for public use.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while this important safety work is completed.”
Last fall, the City of Mississauga said work to install new play equipment and other features to improve safety and accessibility at the two parks, in addition to nearby Charles “Bud” Brennan Park, was underway and scheduled for completion in mid-October (Edengrove and Bud Brennan parks) and early November (Eden Woods).
The work included:
Replacement of playground equipment
Installation of engineered wood mulch safety surfacing
Paved trail connections and accessible playground ramp
New seating
The three play areas were closed to the public while the work was completed.

Similar work was being completed at dozens of other public playgrounds across Mississauga, city officials said earlier in 2025.
Through its Playground Program, “the city is improving accessibility in community playgrounds with changes that include rubber surfacing, accessible swing sets, ground-level play components and paved access routes,” city officials said in an earlier project update.
“We are committed to ongoing monitoring of existing playgrounds and continual research of the playground industry to establish best practices for accessibility. Minor accessibility improvements to existing playgrounds can be made on request … We hope these play features will let more children have fun and memorable playground experiences in our public parks.”
