American billionaire Mark Cuban made good on his word and took a trip to Brampton last weekend to watch his new investment, the Honey Badgers, try and add a sixth-straight win to their 2026 season.

Cuban made headlines last month when it was announced that the American businessman and TV personality was now part owner of Brampton’s Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) team, and said he had plans to come watch the team play live at home.

The former owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks kept that promise on Saturday, and was at the CAA Centre to see his new team take on the Vancouver Bandits.

Saturday’s game honoured veterans and first responders, and Cuban was in the crowd spotted rubbing shoulders with Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.

The Honey Badgers had been on a win streak since the 2026 season started on May 15, racking up five wins in a row including a 91 – 72 routing of the Calgary Surge. But the extra star power from their billionaire owner didn’t stop the Badgers falling short of a six-peat on the weekend, falling 87 – 93 for the Bandits.

Cuban’s is connected to the Honey Badgers friend through majority owner Leonard Asper and CEO Al Whitley, who spent more than two decades working for the Mavericks.

The high-profile investor also pointed to Canada’s growing influence on the global basketball stage as a key reason for joining the team.

His part-ownership comes as the Honey Badgers continue efforts to build momentum heading into the new season, including adding Nav Bhatia — widely known as the “Raptors Superfan” — as a community ambassador in an effort to boost local engagement.
