Organized team activities officially started this week, with more teams getting underway this week. No live contact is permitted, but teams can conduct 7-on-7, 9-on-9 or 11-on-11 live drills. OTAs lead into mandatory minicamp, which is the last offseason event before the preseason begins with training camp in late July or early August.
There are some key things to pay attention to during OTAs, like the health of the roster, attendance of veteran players (sometimes) and more. And when assessing within those parameters, we’re certainly not short on buzzy stories.

With June 1 having finally arrived, the league has been awaiting news on a blockbuster trade involving Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown. That happened on Monday afternoon, when the Eagles sent Brown to the New England Patriots, as expected.
What we didn’t expect was a trade involving two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, to come first. The Cleveland Browns agreed to trade Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. In return, 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and more are heading to Cleveland.

The move rocked the NFL landscape as the Browns got back young DE Jared Verse, along with three draft picks.
On Monday night, Garrett posted a thank-you to the Browns and the city of Cleveland to his personal X account.

A.J. Brown had a few moments of visible frustration on the Philadelphia Eagles’ sideline during the 2025 season. Those blowups, combined with diminishing production in the past two seasons, resulted in Brown’s time with the team coming to a premature end.
The Eagles traded Brown to New England on Monday, the Patriots announced. The Eagles will receive a 2028 first-round pick and 2027 fifth-round pick in return.

The Minnesota Vikings have hired former Seattle Seahawks assistant GM Nolan Teasley as their new general manager, the team announced on Monday. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported the hire on Saturday.
Teasley originally joined the Seahawks back in 2013 as an intern in the scouting department and was promoted through the ranks. He worked as a pro personnel scout from 2014-2016, the assistant director of pro personnel in 2017, and was promoted to the director of pro personnel, a position he held for five years. He was named the assistant GM in February of 2023, working under long-time general manager John Schneider.

Coming off of a loss in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, and with their quarterback — and 2025 NFL MVP — Matthew Stafford returning, the Los Angeles Rams were already the Super Bowl 61 favorite heading into this offseason at sportsbooks.
After reportedly getting NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles is now the clear Super Bowl favorite, according to oddsmakers.
The Rams entered Monday as the +800 favorite at sportsbooks, slightly ahead of the Seahawks at +850 or +900. After the deal, Los Angeles moved to +600 and the Seahawks fell to 11-1 at sportsbooks, behind the Baltimore Ravens (10-1) and Buffalo Bills (10-1). That means that the Rams are currently the only team with single-digit odds to win next year’s Super Bowl.

It’s been long rumored that the Philadelphia Eagles have been orchestrating a trade with New England that would send three-time All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots.
That expected deal is on track to happen, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who reported Monday that the teams have had deep discussions on an exchange that would land the Eagles a 2028 first-round pick.

The New York Giants have signed a trio of veteran wide receivers: Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
OBJ’s return is making the biggest waves. He, of course, starred for the Giants from 2014-18. The team announced his return Monday.
Beckham, 33, didn’t play in the NFL last season, though, and hasn’t caught more than nine passes since the 2023 campaign.

Longtime NFL quarterback Russell Wilson, who will turn 38 in November, is finalizing a deal to become a CBS Sports analyst, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday. Wilson will reportedly join CBS’ Sunday pregame show, “The NFL Today,” which also features host James Brown, former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson and former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher.
The news arrives ahead of what could have been Wilson’s 15th season in the league. He spent the first 10 of those in Seattle, winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks during the 2013 season and falling just short of back-to-back championships the following year. In 2022, he was traded to the Denver Broncos and given a gaudy extension that ultimately resulted in a record $85 million worth of dead money when the veteran signal-caller was released in 2024.
He took on the role of Steelers QB1 for most of the 2024 campaign. Last season, he initially got the nod as the New York Giants’ starting QB, but he was benched for a rookie Jaxson Dart in the wake of an 0-3 start.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown appears to have deactivated his X/Twitter account on Sunday.
He used to have the username @1kalwaysopen_ on the platform, but now, if you search for it, posts he was tagged in by the league no longer have an active link to his profile.
Brown has been heavily linked in trade rumors, especially to the New England Patriots. To help manage Philadelphia’s dead cap hit and spread it over the next two seasons, as opposed to just 2026, the most likely move was supposed to be a post-June 1 trade.
The wide receiver’s apparent account deletion was first noticed on Sunday, the day before June 1.

The Denver Broncos took a significant step toward building their new home on Friday. Along with the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Broncos finalized a $45.8 million purchase of Burnham Yard, a former rail yard that spans 58.5 acres, as reported by The Denver Post.
“We are pleased to finalize a formal agreement with CDOT to purchase the Burnham Yard site with a closing expected this fall,” Broncos spokesperson Patrick Smyth said in a statement, via 9News. “As this remains the preferred site, we remain optimistic that our collaboration with the city, state and community will keep everything on track for 2031.”
The stadium project will call for more land than the Broncos are poised to acquire with this deal, though. They’re reportedly envisioning a 150-acre development, complete with not only a retractable-roof stadium but also a mixed-use entertainment district.

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell addressed the status of three injured players while speaking to reporters on Friday. Safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, along with tight end Sam LaPorta are rehabbing through their respective injuries and are not participating in OTAs this week.
Branch is recovering from a torn Achilles sustained in Week 14, Joseph was limited to six games because of a knee injury, and LaPorta suffered a herniated disc in Week 10 that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Campbell said it was not a priority for the players to be on the field during OTAs and minicamps, but all of have participated in meetings. LaPorta has done some walk-throughs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers fired senior special teams assistant Derius Swinton II for violating team policy, according to multiple reports on Friday.
Swinton was hired as part of head coach Mike McCarthy’s initial Steelers staff earlier this year. He was dismissed because of workplace misconduct, per ESPN.
The 41-year-old Swinton worked for the Las Vegas Raiders before he was brought aboard in Pittsburgh. Notably, he served as the Raiders’ interim special teams coordinator following Week 10 last season. That said, he wasn’t retained by new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak.
Swinton has also held assistant positions with a host of other NFL teams, including the Los Angeles Chargers, for whom he was the special teams coordinator in 2021.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa had his 2025 campaign cut significantly short by a torn right ACL. He told reporters on Thursday at OTAs that he’s “pretty far along” in his recovery and expects to be ready for a 17-game slate.
“I’m out on the field doing a lot of stuff,” Bosa, a five-time Pro Bowler, said, via Kirsten Moran-Kellar of FOX40 News. “Trying to just take it slow cause I tend to push things quicker, and obviously I got injured pretty early last year, so there’s plenty of time for me really to kind of lay the groundwork to be ready for a long season.
“It’s going really well, and I plan on being ready.”
Could his older brother, Joey, join him in San Francisco this season?
“I think he’s working on his golf game right now,” Nick Bosa said. “So, I don’t think he’s thinking too much about football.”

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua spoke with reporters Thursday at OTAs and opened up about what he’s learned about himself this offseason.
“Something I feel like I’ve learned is it’s OK to ask for support,” Nacua told reporters, as captured by Nitecast Media’s Nick Hamilton.
He added: “… and then to recognize the platform that I have and being a professional football player and trying to use that for the betterment of myself and for those around me and the people that have supported me.”
It was the first time he addressed the media since a woman filed a civil lawsuit against him — citing gender violence, assault and battery, and negligence — and the two-time All-Pro wide receiver entered a holistic care facility to focus on his personal growth.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Thursday that running back Isaac Guerendo will miss the start of training camp after tearing his pectoral muscle. Shanahan said that Guerendo suffered the injury while lifting weights about a month ago, but that he is likely to return to the team by the end of training camp.
Guerendo, a running back and kick returner, played in 16 games during his rookie season in 2024, but did not play at all last year.

After being plagued by a knee injury that limited him to 12 games last season, Raiders tight end Brock Bowers said Thursday that he’s 100% healthy.
“It feel good to be back out there (and) practicing full speed,” Bowers said, via ESPN’s Ryan McFadden.
Bowers was placed on injured reserve in December due to a lingering PCL injury that sidelined him for four games in October. That placement ended his season, but Bowers is set to return at full strength for his third year in the league this fall.

The Minnesota Vikings have completed the second round of interviews for their general manager vacancy, according to The Athletic’s Alec Lewis.
The expectation’s been that the team would make its hire in late May or early June, per Lewis.
Minnesota is replacing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, whom the franchise fired on Jan. 30. Since, longtime football administration executive Rob Brzezinski has served as interim general manager.

Veteran left tackle Trent Williams will attend San Francisco 49ers OTAs next week, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Thursday, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
Williams, who will turn 38 in July, is the only 49ers player who hasn’t attended the team’s offseason program this year.
The 12-time Pro Bowler is hardly in need of reps, anyway. Last season, he was a second-team All-Pro.
