A familiar voice is back on Perth’s airwaves, with former 96FM Afternoons host Russell Clarke returning to join Lisa Shaw on Breakfast.
Starting this Monday, August 18, Russell takes over from Dean “Clairsy” Clairs, who is stepping away from Breakfast radio after more than 40 years in the industry.
Today marked Clairsy’s final brekky shift.
The Lisa & Russell Breakfast Show will continue to feature sports guru Adrian ‘Barra’ Barich, who is increasing his on-air presence and joining the team every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as West Coast Eagle Elliot Yeo and Fremantle Docker Hayden Young.
Russell’s radio career spans more than three decades. He spent almost two decades as Content and Music Director at Mix 94.5, before moving to on-air roles including hosting 96FM Afternoons.
He has also worked at SAFM in Adelaide for seven years, plus The Eagle, 6MM West Coast Radio and 6PR, and was a casual announcer at 6IX after departing SCA in 2018.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be back at 96FM and teaming up with Lisa for Breakfast,” said Russell.
“Perth audiences have always been so loyal, and I can’t wait to start the day with them – playing great songs, having a laugh and keeping them informed.”
Lisa added: “We go way back, so we already have plenty of dirt on each other. Russell’s a bit of a germophobe so after years of the studio smelling like Clairsy’s toast, I will have to get used to it smelling like Glen 20 instead!”
Greg Edgeworth, 96FM Content Director, said “Russell is one of Perth’s most experienced and respected broadcasters. His deep knowledge of music, passion for radio and connection with listeners make him the perfect fit to join Lisa on Breakfast.”
Lisa & Russell can be heard weekdays from 6.00am on 96FM.
