Two people — one from Mississauga, the other from Fergus, Ont. — face stunt driving charges after an alleged street race last Friday afternoon in a small town north of the Greater Toronto Area.
Ontario Provincial Police said an officer on patrol on Wellington Road 124 in Erin, about 60 kilometres north of Mississauga, spotted two cars “travelling well above the posted speed limit, one behind the other” at 2:45 p.m.
Both vehicles were pulled over, police said, adding subsequent investigation led to charges being laid against the drivers.
A Mississauga resident, 42, and a resident of Fergus, Ont., 26, are each charged with drive motor vehicle, perform stunt — excessive speed and speeding at 50-plus km/h over the posted limit.
Both are scheduled to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
A 30-day driver’s licence suspension was issued to each of the accused and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days, police said.
Stunt driving in Ontario is defined as travelling at:
50 km/h or more over the speed limit where the posted limit is above 80 km/h
40 km/h or more over where the limit is 80 km/h or less
a speed of 150 km/h or more on any road or highway
