Welcome to Day 10
After a week of blazing hot sunshine and clear skies, we’ve woken up to some different weather this morning. ☔
Outside courts are currently not scheduled to begin until 12:00, but with a roof on Courts Philippe-Chatrier and Suzanne-Lenglen things will get underway as scheduled at 11:00.
It’s the first day of quarterfinals and after a few more surprises and upsets yesterday, there are eight exciting men’s and women’s matches to come over the next two days.
Getting things started is the first of three 19-year-olds playing today. No.8 seed Mirra Andreeva faces Sorana Cirstea, who is playing in her final season on tour and coming up with some of the best results of her career. After that it’s a quarterfinal between Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina – guaranteeing that there will be a Ukrainian in the Roland-Garros semifinal for the first time in the Open era.
➡️ Day 10 Match of the Day: An all-Ukrainian affair
Another 19-year-old takes to court for the third match as Rafael Jodar, playing in only his second Grand Slam event, comes up against No.2 seed Alexander Zverev – who has made the semifinals here on four occasions and was runner-up in 2024.
And under the lights tonight, two of this tournament’s many ‘marathon men’ for the gruelling five setters they’ve already come through meet for the night session – Czech Jakub Mensik and exciting Brazilian Joao Fonseca who is… you’ve guessed it… 19 years old.
