A 15-year-old Mississauga youth and a 17-year-old from Vaughan face charges after a stolen vehicle was involved in a crash with a large truck early Wednesday morning on Highway 400 north of the Greater Toronto Area.

Police said the collision between a Honda CR-V, which was later determined to have been stolen in Peel, and a transport truck occurred at around 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes south of County Road 88, in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

South Simcoe Police said the Honda was disabled as a result of the collision, which backed up traffic in both northbound and southbound lanes of the busy highway that takes motorists between the GTA and Ontario’s cottage country.

During subsequent investigation, police said witnesses reported seeing the two occupants of the Honda CR-V flee the area on foot toward Bradford immediately following the collision.

Police arrested two people a short time later and also determined the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the morning in Peel.

A 17-year-old youth, of Vaughan, and a 15-year-old youth, of Mississauga, are each charged with:

Theft of motor vehicle.
Possession of stolen motor vehicle.
Possession of automobile master key.
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Fail to remain at the scene of a collision.
Fail to comply with release conditions.

The 17-year-old was held for a bail hearing, police said.

Identities of the accused are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

South Simcoe Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash camera footage from Highway 400 in the area of the crash at around 6 a.m. to call them at 905-775-3311 or email [email protected].
