What is a boxer’s fracture?
The broken hand injury that Knicks center Mitchell Robinson suffered last week.

A boxer’s fracture is a break in your hand’s fifth metacarpal, which typically occurs when you punch something too hard.
The force of the punch’s impact on your pinky finger is great enough to cause a break in the head of the metacarpal.
While a boxer’s fracture doesn’t always require surgery, Robinson’s was apparently severe enough that he did undergo surgery for the injury.
The fracture could take six to eight weeks to fully heal, but Robinson is expected to play in the series, and he was at practice on Tuesday.
