The New York Knicks are three wins away from their first title since 1973, after coming back to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
The Spurs rode early scoring spurts from Dylan Harper and Julian Champagnie to a seven-point halftime lead, as Jalen Brunson struggled from the floor and sustained minor knee and ankle injuries.
But the Knicks clawed back in the third quarter to erase a 14-point deficit, before surging in the fourth as Brunson finally found success aggressively hunting for his shot. The Spurs went on a 9-0 run with under five minutes erased New York’s lead thanks to Wembanyama, but a Brunson corner 3 ended the drought and put New York in the lead for good.
Brunson finished 12-for-31 with 30 points while Karl-Anthony Towns had an 18-12 double-double while battling Wembanyama, who finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
