LETTER: Surrey needs more trees, not monster homes

I just wanted to write to tell you that I have lived in South Surrey my entire life and I’m very upset recently to see the destruction of trees and bushes for massive houses that are changing the aesthetics and nature in this area.
This spring I walked around my neighbourhood listening to the birds, owls, woodpeckers, thinking that if this destruction of trees continues these animals will have nowhere to live. Parks are not enough; we need the second growth in neighborhoods, too.
Increase the fines for developers who chop them down without permits. Determine a maximum size of house for Surrey regardless of lot size. Multi-dwelling developments at least provide housing. These monster houses are purely for status and to display wealth at the price of nature. It’s horrible.
