CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Central’s Brenna Perriton was not certain if she would have a chance to take the field for her senior season of soccer after tearing her ACL. However, a quick surgery and recovery landed her back on the pitch and a spot with the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Golden Eagles.
“It’s very exciting for me because at the beginning of the year, I didn’t think I was going to be able to do this, or it was going to be an option for me,” Perriton said. “I went to talk with Coach Lugo [Arenas], and he gave me a spot on the team, and I was honestly so relieved because I didn’t think that was going to be an option.”
Perriton was a four-year letter winner for the Central Lady Indians in soccer, while also running cross-country and playing basketball.
In her senior year, there was one goal for Perriton, other than recovering from injury. She wanted to head to the Wyoming State Tournament.
Perriton and Central would do just that, clinching a spot as the last team out of the 4A East Conference. The Lady Indians would go to overtime and a shootout against the top team from the 4A West, Kelly Walsh, in the quarterfinals. Despite falling in that game, it was an experience Perriton had been wishing for.
“All I wanted to do was make State, and I had my heart set on that,” Perriton said. “My setback happened with my ACL tear, and I just wanted to be on the field. Going to State was the best experience so far for me. Central Soccer, it was amazing, and my team put up a fight against Kelly Walsh.”
She would go on to give plenty of credit to Central coach Coy Pickel, who came to the team in her junior season.
“Thank you to Coy and Scott [Washenfelder] for being really good coaches these last two years,” Perriton said. “I struggled my first two years of soccer, but they were amazing, and I improved so much.”
